Royals FanFest draws crowds despite cold weather

  • February 2, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Royals held their annual FanFest at Kauffman Stadium despite frigid conditions, with fans showing enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

General Manager JJ Picollo highlighted the team’s pitching depth as a key strength heading into the new season.

“We have 8 guys who have made starts and had success in the Major Leagues, and the 9th guy’s one of the best arms out of the minor leagues,” Picollo said.

Fan favorites emerge

Fans at the event shared their favorite players, with catcher Salvador Perez emerging as a popular choice.

“Salvy,” one fan said when asked about their favorite Royal.

Other fans mentioned Maikel Garcia, Kris Bubic and Bobby Witt Jr. as their preferred players.

“I love Garcia, I’m wearing his jersey now,” another fan said.

“Probably Bobby Witt. He’s my favorite player in the Major Leagues,” said another attendee.

Offensive production highlighted

While the team hoped to add outfield hitters during the offseason, Picollo emphasized the existing offensive talent.

“Our infield was the most productive offensive in baseball…Salvy, Vinnie, Bobby and Maikel- they were all Silver Slugger finalists,” Picollo said.

Stadium location remains undecided

Team owner John Sherman addressed the ongoing search for a new stadium location, saying sites in Kansas, Clay County and downtown Kansas City remain under consideration.

“I’d love to see us in the heart of the city. But we’re open to other ideas,” Sherman said.
