The New York Mets are having a very solid offseason, especially in the past few weeks, bringing in names like Bo Bichette, Luis Robert Jr., and Freddy Peralta all since the start of January. However, with spring training starting later this month, there is still times for many teams across baseball to bring in players that will have a meaningful impact in the 2026 season.

With Steve Cohen and David Stears in control of the Mets, there is no telling what might be next, but a recent report shows that the Mets and three other MLB teams are interested in former Seattle Mariners All-Star infielder Ty France.

Should the Mets Sign Ty France?

MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo reports that the Mets are joined alongside the New York Yankees, Padres, and Diamondbacks as teams that are interested in Ty France.

France spent his 2025 season with both the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays. He played in 138 total games in ’25 and hit .257 with 52 RBI. He played 30 games with the Blue Jays.

The 31-year-old first baseman is now a free agent, and the reports suggest his market is becoming robust.

He isn’t too far removed from being an All-Star with the Mariners in 2022 and being a 20-home run candidate. Now, as for what his role would be with the Mets, that is unclear at the moment. New York brought in Jorge Polanco to presumably take over duties at first, since Pete Alonso is now gone. However, bringing in France might push Polanco to a DH role, and open up first base for France to get the majority of the reps.

A lot is still undecided with the Mets roster heading into spring training, but one can assume they likely aren’t done making low-cost moves like this to better help prepare the cast of players heading into the fresh season.

What is Ty France’s Market Value?

The next question is, what is the current price tag for a player like Ty France? How much would it cost for the Mets to bring him in, on let’s say, a one-year deal?

Spotrac projects Ty France to earn a one-year contract for $1.7 million, which is absolutely a number the Mets should be able to reach.

France spent five years of his MLB career with the Seattle Mariners, where he was the most productive as a hitter. He posted a 115 OPS+ over 561 games with Seattle. After the Mariners, he’s bounced around from the Reds to the Twins and, most recently, the Blue Jays.

BaseballReference.com predicts Ty France to hit .247 over 400+ at-bats in 2026 with 10 home runs and 50 RBI.
