Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers, announced he plans to play four more seasons in MLB and then retire

Freddie Freeman, Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman, announced he plans to play for four more seasons at DodgerFest 2026 on Jan. 31.

Freeman signed with the Dodgers on March 18, 2022, to a six-year, $162 million contract and has two years left on this contract. Across four seasons, Freeman slashed .310/.391/.516 with a .907 OPS, 151 OPS+, 96 home runs, 361 RBIs and a 22.3 fWAR in 614 games.

“I have two years left on this deal and I’ve always wanted, I think 20 years would be really cool, so I guess that would put it at four more years,” Freeman said.

Before signing with the Dodgers, Freeman played for the Atlanta Braves from 2010-2021 where he helped the Braves win the 2021 World Series. While in Atlanta, Freeman slashed .295/.384/.509 with an .893 OPS, 138 OPS+, 271 home runs, 941 RBIs and a 42.5 fWAR in 1565 games.

Additionally, Freeman is a nine-time all-star, three-time silver slugger, the 2020 National League MVP and the 2024 World Series MVP. Some of his most notable moments with the Dodgers are his walk-off grand slam in game one of the 2024 World Series and walk-off home run in the 18th inning in game three of the 2025 World Series.

“I just love playing and performing and being on the biggest of stages,” Freeman said. “To be able to have the chance to win World Series, that’s what we play for. That’s why we grind every day throughout the whole season.
