Ryan Borucki was knocked around for three runs on a two-run double by Caleb Durbin and an RBI double by Brice Turang in the eighth inning, as the Pirates suffered a 6-5 loss to the Brewers this afternoon at PNC Park.

“We got 0-2 on Durbin. He’s trying to go down. Just left a pitch up out over the middle. Durbin didn’t miss it,” Don Kelly said. “I know he’s frustrated about it. He’s had a good year up to this point. A pitch that he didn’t get down.”

The Pirates scored five unanswered runs to erase a three-run deficit prior to the Brewers’ late outburst. The home team scored its first run on a third-inning home run by Oneil Cruz, one that was went out with an exit velocity of 122.9 mph and set a record for the hardest-hit ball in the Statcast era, which began in 2015. Adam Frazier and Tommy Pham each contributed RBI singles in the sixth before Frazier added a two-run double in the seventh.

Bailey Falter overcame a 28-pitch first inning in which he allowed three runs — two earned — to deliver another productive outing. He surrendered just four hits and three walks while striking out one, and held the Brewers scoreless over the remainder of his 5 2/3-inning performance. Falter has allowed just three earned runs over 29 1/3 innings pitched this month.
