The Atlanta Braves closed a three-game homestand with the San Diego Padres on Sunday afternoon. The game was also the last time the Braves were going to see the Padres again during the regular season. The teams played four in San Diego during the first week of the season. San Diego won all four of those games.
Atlanta is going to Philadelphia to face the Phillies in a three-game series. The Braves took two out of three games in Philadelphia in early April. During the games that the Braves won, they scored a combined 11 runs. During the one game they lost, Atlanta scored twice in a 4-2 loss.
The Phillies have been at the top of the National League East all season. Philadelphia is currently 34-18 and 17-8 in Citizens Bank Park through Saturday.
Braves lefthander Chris Sale will pitch during the Phillies series, and that’s a good thing for Atlanta. Sale’s last start, a 2-1 loss to the Padres at Truist Park on Friday, May 23, was excellent. He went seven innings, only giving up one earned run and four hits, while striking out six Padres.
Then What:
The Braves will host the Boston Red Sox and the Arizona Diamondbacks in their next two series. Atlanta took two of our three in Boston last weekend and two out of three in Arizona last month.
