According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the team has reached an agreement with free-agent Carlos Santana, pending a physical. The move would add an experienced and respected clubhouse presence to an Arizona roster aiming to return to the postseason.

Arizona Sports’ John Gambadoro reports the deal is for one year and approximately $2 million.

Santana spent last season split between the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Guardians, providing steady power and on-base ability. In 2025, Santana posted a .219 batting average with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs.

The Diamondbacks are addressing a clear need, looking to solidify their infield alongside Ketel Marte, Geraldo Perdomo and newly acquired Nolan Arenado. Santana’s addition would give Arizona one of the more veteran-laden infields in MLB.

His switch-hitting ability also works in the Diamondbacks’ favor, allowing him to remain in the lineup regardless of pitching matchups and providing additional flexibility.

Santana was one of the more recognizable free-agent veterans still on the market, and Arizona’s interest — and now potential deal — signals the organization believes he can bring meaningful value.

While the agreement remains pending, the Diamondbacks appear close to checking off a major offseason objective by rounding out their infield.
