Aaron Boone isn’t concerned about the criticism the Yankees are facing for their quiet offseason

The New York Yankees find themselves in an odd spot this offseason. While the team was expected to make big moves in an effort to make a World Series push in 2026, to this point, the front office has not done much to improve the team. With Spring Training right around the corner, fans are upset, and manager Aaron Boone has heard some of their gripes loud and clear.

So far, the Yanks’ biggest moves of the offseason have seen them find ways to keep outfielders Cody Bellinger and Trent Grisham in town. For the most part, New York is currently slated to run it back with the same team that was eliminated in the ALDS last season. And while some folks think that’s a bad thing, Boone seems to disagree with that notion.

Aaron Boone Gets Real on Yankees’ Offseason

With arguably the best hitter of his generation, Aaron Judge, leading the charge for the Yanks in recent seasons, it’s been World Series or bust for this team. And yet, all N.Y. has to show for during Judge’s time in town is one World Series appearance in 2024, which saw them lose in five games to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Simply put, the results have not been good enough.

While Boone and general manager Brian Cashman are facing calls for their heads on a daily basis, they remain two of the most important leaders of this team. Cashman hasn’t done much to improve the roster at Boone’s disposal for the 2026 campaign, and that could ultimately come back to bite them both if the team fails to meet expectations this year.

And yet, Boone doesn’t seem worried about all the criticism that the Yankees have dealt with this offseason. When discussing the subject, he pointed back to the fact that New York won 94 games last year, and while the new campaign hasn’t even gotten underway yet, he has high hopes for what his squad will be able to accomplish when it returns to action.

“It doesn’t really matter what I think right now, what the complaints are in the offseason, or how excited you are,” Boone said on “The Show.” “It’s Feb. 3, and we’ve got a long way to go to be good. We’re coming with a team that won 94 games last year … I’m excited about the piece of clay that we have, the roster that we have, the potential of that roster. It’s on all of us to try and go bring it to fruition. I think we have a chance to be really good.”

After another disappointing playoff run, fan outrage over pretty much every aspect of the team reached an all-time high. The problem is that very few changes have been made, so essentially, if the Yanks don’t win a championship in 2026, they will find themselves in virtually the same spot they were in this offseason.

It’s going to be on Boone and company to ensure that there are different conversations being had next offseason. Of course, there is still time for New York to make a splash move or two before the 2026 campaign, but there’s no sense counting on that to happen right now. For better or worse, the Yankees are the same, and while Boone is saying the right things, that will only get you so far with a fed-up New York fanbase.
