The Boston Red Sox have had a decent offseason, but to make it a worthwhile one, they need to replace Alex Bregman’s bat. Luckily, there’s a trade that could easily solve their problem.
According to Fansided’s Christopher Kline proposes that the Sox finally act, and make a deal with the Houston Astros for two-time All-Star Isaac Paredes.
The trade would look like this:
Red Sox get: 3B Isaac Paredes
Astros get: 2B Romy Gonzalez, OF Justin Gonzales (BOS #5)
“The Red Sox are hurting after Bregman’s exit. Paredes can slide over to second base, mitigating defensive concerns, while his bat profiles nicely at Fenway. Boston needs a right-handed bopper to help round out its lineup. In return, Houston gets a supercharged utilityman in Romy Gonzalez, who finished last season with an .826 OPS in 315 at-bats. He comes with defensive concerns of his own, but he can line up all over the infield and the metrics paint last season’s production as imminently sustainable. Justin Gonzales, a 19-year-old outfielder with incredible tools, makes this a worthwhile haul for Houston,” Kline wrote.
This past season, Paredes finished 2025 slashing .254/.352/.458/.809 with 15 doubles, 20 home runs, and 53 RBI in 102 games played. His bat would also be powered up in Fenway, since as a righty he can abuse the Green Monster.
Paredes has been linked to the Sox this whole offseason, even as recently as today. He’s a cheap contract, he’s under control for another year, and his bat profiles as something the Sox desperately need.
Hopefully, the Sox pull this off, and finally get the replacement they’ve been looking for.
