MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) –
Baseball fans, especially those of the Atlanta Braves, are in for a real treat this weekend as Hall-of-Famer Chipper Jones will be the guest of honor for an MCC baseball fundraising event.
Jones, the first overall pick in the 1990 MLB draft, was a member of the Braves from 1993 to 2012 and was part of 13 division titles and the 1995 world championship team. He was the 1999 national league most valuable player and arguably one of the best switch hitters ever. MCC head coach Dillon Sudduth says it’s an honor for the school and the team for Jones to take part in the benefit.
“They might now have seen him play in-person, but they know who he is,” said Sudduth. “He’s going to speak to the team, which I’m fired up about. The knowledge that he’ll be able to give these guys will be great. Besides just the fundraising part of it, he being around our players and sharing his knowledge is unbelievable and priceless really.”
The fundraiser is set for this Saturday night at MCC’s McCain Theater and is open only to ticketed attendees. General admission tickets are still available at meridiancc.edu/legends.
