The Seattle Mariners would likely be interested in Brett Baty.
The New York Mets have been one of the most active teams in MLB in terms of offseason trades, and they may not be done just yet. As spring training approaches, the Mets might be done in terms of making free agency signings after landing Bo Bichette, but the trade market seems to be wide open still.
David Stearns has helped bring in the likes of Marcus Semien, Luis Robert Jr., and Freddy Peralta. With a crowded infield, some who cover the Mets have been questioning what utility man Brett Baty’s role will be with the team. The outfield still seems a bit of an issue for New York, but Baty might be able to help flip an outfielder to the Mets.

Mets Reports Says Brett Baty Has Trade Suitors
The Athletic writer Will Sammon, who covers the Mets, has indicated that there are teams interested in trading for Brett Baty.
Sammon didn’t indicate the teams, but some teams that come to mind include the Giants,  Blue Jays, Pirates, and maybe even the Yankees as trade partners.

Once the Mets acquired Bichette, the reports indicated that Baty might see time at DH, but then that changed to ‘reps in the outfield’, so there’s a lot of unknown with the Mets’ 26-year-old infielder.
However, Baty showed a lot of upside in 2025, hitting 18 home runs and driving in 50 runs in 131 games. His bWAR sat at 3.1 last season, which makes it bizarre as to why he’s becoming the sudden subject of trade rumors. A 3.0 WAR player is a very valuable asset, and Baty’s youth and emergence should be an encouraging sign for the Mets.

Will the Mets Trade Brett Baty?
There are no official reports that suggest that the New York Mets are actually considering trading Brett Baty.
With spring training on the horizon, it appears that Baty has a role on this Mets team and will likely be in the Opening Day lineup, unless he does end up getting dealt.
The only thing that the Mets may try to flip Baty into is a strong outfielder, but it feels like New York could also just further develop him into an outfielder and not even have to worry about that issue.
