The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Wednesday that they signed right-handed pitcher Mike Clevinger to a minor-league deal with an invite to spring training.
Clevinger, 35, is a nine-year veteran between stints with the Cleveland Indians, San Diego Padres and Chicago White Sox. In 164 career appearances/142 starts, the right-hander is 60-44 with a 3.55 ERA.
Clevinger emerged as one of the better starters in baseball early in his career with Cleveland. In 80 appearances from 2017-19, he went 38-18 with a 2.96 ERA and 513 strikeouts in 447.2 innings pitched. His last full season in the big leagues came in 2023 with the White Sox, when he went 9-9 with a 3.77 ERA across 24 starts.
Clevinger spent most of the 2025 season with Triple-A Charlotte in Chicago’s organization. There, he went 7-3 with a 4.20 ERA in 22 starts. He also made eight relief appearances for the White Sox and went 0-2 with a 7.94 ERA.
The Pirates have been seeking starting rotation depth after trading Johan Oviedo and Mike Burrows earlier in the offseason.
