It wouldn’t have been the biggest signing of the baseball off-season, even if it was real. But for a Los Angeles Angels team that currently has Alek Manoah and Grayson Rodriguez penciled into their rotation — neither of whom has pitched a major league inning since 2024 — it would have made sense.

Wednesday afternoon, the Inside Halos Twitter/X account posted a screengrab showing free agent left-hander Tyler Anderson re-signing with the Angels.
The internet then did what the internet does in 2026. It took the transaction alert as gospel.
Fifty minutes after the original post from Inside Halos, veteran Angels beat writer Jeff Fletcher of the Southern California clarified the record.
“The Angels have NOT signed Tyler Anderson to a minor league deal,” Fletcher wrote on Twitter/X. “It’s a data entry mistake from MLB, perhaps confusing him with Shaun Anderson.”

Anderson, 36, is a two-time All-Star coming off his third straight season in Anaheim. He was 2-8 with a 4.56 ERA (94 ERA+) in 136.1 innings last year.
It wouldn’t be a surprise to see Anderson reunite with an Angels team that has been perennially short on pitching depth since it last made the playoffs in 2014. As data-entry mistakes go, this one wasn’t an obvious mistake.
Alas, the Angels’ latest free agent signing was just a false alarm. For Tyler Anderson’s agent, the offseason work is not done.
