There’s no telling if the New York Mets are done making trades this MLB offseason. As spring training approaches, New York is fresh off a very busy January where they acquired the likes of Freddy Peralta and Luis Robert Jr., via trade, and signed infielder Bo Bichette.
With David Stearns running the front office and a plethora of productive players as trade assets, the Mets might still have more left in the tank this winter in terms of making moves. Starter Kodai Senga has suddenly become the subject of trade rumors, and a recent FanSided trade piece puts together a package that would offload Senga to the San Diego Padres for three prospects.

Mets Predicted to Trade Kodai Senga to Padres
This trade idea is somewhat of a different route for the Mets. They have been the one this offseason to acquire All-Star players (Marcus Semien, Freddy Peralta), not give one away.
According to FanSided’s Christopher Kline, the MLB writer predicts the Mets to offload Kodai Senga to the Padres in exchange for southpaw starter J.P. Sears and two prospects (Bradgley Rodriguez, Kale Fountain):

“A trade could prove more viable, with New York Mets righty Kodai Senga of particular appeal. He’s under club control for two more years, with a club option in 2028. In terms of pure stuff, Senga feels a lot more valuable than the trade package laid out above. His signature ghost fork sits 12-plus MPH below his fastball and falls off the table with incredible deception.”
The Padres acquired Sears in their deal with the Athletics last MLB trade deadline, but swapping him for Kodai Senga would be an addition for San Diego. Senga posted a 3.02 ERA over 22 starts in 2025, but wasn’t effective down the stretch for the Mets, and is on the plus-side of 30 (33).

Will the Mets Trade Kodai Senga This Offseason
Kodai Senga is a bizarre case with the Mets. While there have certainly been rumors suggesting he might be dealt, the Mets signed him to a five-year, $75 million deal before he broke into MLB.
He showed New York he was worth that payday by being an All-Star as a rookie. However, he followed that up by dealing with a slew of injuries in 2024 and making just one start.
Along with Kodai Senga, Brett Baty also seems to be gaining buzz in the trade market, according to Mets insiders, but there’s been no report that New York is actively shopping him.
A lot of teams across MLB could use starters, and so could the Mets, theoretically, but they feel a lot better about their current group than they did before picking up Freddy Peralta.
Adding Peralta and potentially inking him to a multi-year deal might push Senga and his ghost fork out of town.
