Jack Leiter will be wearing a new number for the 2026 season.
The Texas Rangers starting pitcher is going back to the No. 22, the same number he wore at Vanderbilt and a number his father, Al, wore during his MLB career.
Leiter previously wore No. 35 with the Rangers, while fellow pitcher Jon Gray occupied the No. 22 uniform.

After a handful of appearances in 2024, Leiter, 25, took a big step forward in 2025. He landed a rotation spot in spring training, then made 29 starts and pitched 151 innings while still classified as a rookie. He surged in the second half of the season, compiling a 3.28 ERA after the All-Star break over 13 starts and averaging 10 strikeouts per nine innings.
He goes to camp as the likely No. 4 starter behind Jacob deGrom, Nathan Eovaldi and MacKenzie Gore.
Among other number changes on the roster, first baseman and designated hitter Joc Pederson will be switching from No. 4 to No. 3 and relief pitcher Chris Martin will swap from No. 55 to No. 31.
