It’s easy to see on paper that the New York Yankees have a crowded outfield.
But even with that in mind, the decision the Yanks may be heading toward with Jasson Dominguez is a total surprise.
According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, Dominguez is likely to begin the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre rather than in the Bronx.
Sure, the Yankees have Cody Bellinger, Trent Grisham and Aaron Judge to start in the outfield, with Giancarlo Stanton at DH.

It still seemed like Dominguez could stay up as the fourth outfielder and see a decent chunk of action.
Dominguez is about to turn 23 years old, so he’s got a long future ahead of him. The Yankees clearly feel he could benefit from playing every day, including in the outfield where he’s not a good fielder.
On the flip side, Dominguez was already productive in the majors last season.
He batted .257 in 381 at bats with 10 home runs and 23 stolen bases.
Dominguez had a .719 OPS in 2025.

In his parts of three seasons in MLB, Dominguez has a .724 OPS to go with 29 steals in 34 attempts.
The Yankees have the luxury of depth to allow them to send Dominguez down. If that is indeed what happens, they’ll also need to get Dominguez on board just as far as making sure he takes the right approach down and doesn’t mope after getting sent down.
It’s certainly not an easy situation, so it’ll bear watching throughout the spring. It would probably just take one injury to keep Dominguez up.
