The Chicago White Sox announced they agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with outfielder Austin Hays, which includes an $8 mutual option for 2027 or a $1 million buyout.

Hays, an All-Star for the Baltimore Orioles in 2023, batted .266 with 15 home runs and a .768 OPS in 416 plate appearances in 2025 for the Cincinnati Reds.

Hays, who turns 31 in July, joins a White Sox outfield that includes former Madeira High School standout Andrew Benintendi.

The Reds announced in Nov. 2025 they declined their contract options on Hays, as well as relief pitchers Brent Suter and Scott Barlow. Suter reportedly is nearing a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
