The Chicago Cubs have a loaded infield heading into the 2026 season, after strengthening it with a massive free agent signing last month. The team has been able to solidify the roster with this signing, and are going to be rewarded because of it. Chicago’s newest addition in the lineup was recently recognized as one of the top players at his position heading into the season. Let’s take a closer look at who it is and why he is considered so high up on that list.

MLB’s The Shredder has released who it believes the top 10 at third base heading into the 2026 season. The newest member of the Cubs, Alex Bregman, found himself on the list as he was ranked third at the position. He only trailed Cleveland Guardians’ Jose Ramirez and Los Angeles Dodgers’ Max Muncy. Bregman has been a strong player who has shown the ability to impact games both at the plate and in the field. He won the 2024 American League Gold Glove at the position as a member of the Houston Astros and hit well with the Boston Red Sox in 2025.

He played 114 games last season and finished with a .273/.360/.462 slash line with 18 home runs, 62 RBI, 64 runs scored, and 51 walks to 70 strikeouts. This season landed him a five-year, $175 million contract this offseason with the Cubs. It will be intriguing to see how he fits in with the Chicago team as he faces primarily National League pitching for the first time in his career.
