The Milwaukee Brewers don’t have the money to sign star players once they’re in free agency. This is likely the reason they opted to trade Freddy Peralta before he made it to free agency next winter.

But the Brewers do have the money to sign their arbitration and pre-arbitration players to contract extensions, which is exactly what they should be looking to do right now.

Just Baseball’s Shaan Donohue predicted the Brewers would follow the Athletics’ lead and sign star infielder Brice Turang to a six-year, $75 million deal. The Athletics agreed to a big contract extension with their star infielder, Jacob Wilson, this month.

Milwaukee Brewers infielder Brice Turang

“Brice Turang is the type of player whose value is often underestimated in public discourse and carefully protected in front offices,” Donohue wrote. “His profile is defense-forward, speed-driven, and highly positionally valuable — all traits that tend to age less gracefully than power, but also provide a high early-career floor.

“Turang has already produced multiple strong WAR seasons despite a below-average offensive profile (career 88 wRC+), largely on the back of elite defense and baserunning. A tangible swing change in 2025 — marked by increased bat speed and improved attack angles — pushed him into a new tier, resulting in a 4+ WAR season.”

Turang is early in his big league career, but he’s already proved that he’s a star. The versatile infielder is one of the best defensive players in the game, and his bat is above average, too.

Turang is primed for another big season this year, which will only increase his value. With each passing year, the star infielder will only get harder to sign to a long-term deal. The Brewers should put the money together to land a new deal with him as soon as possible.
