Mario Garza was promoted to International Scouting Director, filling a needed void for the New York Yankees.
Among many questions surrounding the New York Yankees going into the 2026 season, perhaps the biggest is what the role of outfielder Jasson Dominguez will be throughout the season. It seems as if Dominguez has been the subject of trade rumors since he broke into MLB, but there’s been no movement on that front in terms of whether the Yankees will actually move their young outfielder.
However, a recent report from an MLB insider provided some insight into Jasson Domínguez’s role to start the 2026 season. It’s fair to note that the Yankees have a really crowded outfield at the moment, with Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham, and Cody Bellinger all having a starting spot.

Where Will Jasson Dominguez Start in 2026?
Per MLB insider Jon Heyman, Jasson Dominguez will likely start the 2026 season in the minor leagues, with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre:
“Barring something unforeseen (an injury perhaps?), Jasson Domínguez looks to be ticketed for Triple-A Scranton Wilkes-Barre. The Yankees’ starting OF appears set with the return of Cody Bellinger.”

Jasson Dominguez was once the Yankees’ top prospect, and it’s not like he’s struggled mightily in the big leagues, but with New York having other outfield options, it hasn’t given Dominguez a runway to be a full-time starter. 2025 was really the first time Dominguez got a real chance to show what he could do with the bat, and he hit .257 in 123 games with 10 home runs and 18 doubles.
Manager Aaron Boone indicated earlier this offseason that Jasson Dominguez could be getting full-time reps in left field, but that was before the team signed Cody Bellinger. However, even though he may start the season in the minors, Dominguez still provides the Yankees with value in the sense that he’s a switch-hitter, on a controllable contract, and a young option on the roster.

Should the Yankees Add to Their Roster?
The Yankees have had a bizarre offseason in terms of what they have done to the roster. We’ve seen several transactions, but nothing incredibly notable, and it seems like Brian Cashman and the front office are worried about the DFA limbo more than finding an impactful right-handed bat.
There are still quality right-handed hitters out there like Rhys Hoskins, Marcell Ozuna, Ty France, etc.
But it would require the Yankees to spend some money on a top remaining hitter, which the team doesn’t seem that willing to do after the Bellinger contract.
Make no mistake, New York still has one of the best rosters in baseball, so they don’t necessarily have to make any more moves; it’s just the fact that other AL East rivals have been busy in their offseason pursuits.
