The Atlanta Braves announced on Wednesday the players who are joining the organization for spring training, which starts next week. It started with 24 new players, but on Friday, the Braves signed infielder Kyle Farmer to a non-roster invite that will bring him into spring training with the club. Farmer came up with the Dodgers in 2017 and spent his 2025 season with the Colorado Rockies. In 2025, he hit eight home runs in 97 games.
This is an intriguing addition for the Braves, who have been searching for infield depth since Ha-Seong Kim’s injury, which will keep Kim out 4-5 months. Atlanta brought in Jorge Mateo to help fill the void, but Farmer and Mateo will likely be fighting for the same roster spot.

Braves Bring In Kyle Farmer on NRI Deal
This is a good opportunity for Kyle Farmer, who has shown he’s been able to hit at the big league level for several years. The Dodgers drafted him in the eighth round of the MLB draft out of the University of Georgia, so this is somewhat of a homecoming if he ends up on the Braves’ Opening Day roster.
He has 63 career home runs over nine MLB seasons. He did not play much with the Dodgers over his first two MLB seasons. However, once he moved to the Reds, he started to find his footing at the plate. From 2021 to 2022, Farmer hit 30 home runs and drove in 60+ runs in consecutive campaigns.

The Braves will be his fifth MLB organization being a part of.
Farmer then landed with the Twins, where he spent the next two seasons.

Does Kyle Farmer Have a Role with the Braves?
As mentioned, this is an interesting addition for the Braves and a good opportunity for Kyle Farmer, but it doesn’t necessarily guarantee his spot with the team.
Farmer also has some catcher experience in MLB, and that also secures him a spot if Sean Murphy starts the season on the IL, which seems likely at this very moment.
But as far as the Braves’ infield depth currently, it is thin outside the starters, and a veteran bat like Kyle Farmer might provide a little bit of a boost to the group.
