CINCINNATI (WXIX) – A viral video of Elly De La Cruz on a dirtbike prompted a response from Cincinnati Reds management.
The young Reds superstar was on a dirt bike with a group of riders, a video posted to X by MLB reporter Héctor Gómez shows.
With the season approaching, fans could be worried Cruz might injure himself on the dirt bike.
The video does not show Cruz driving the dirt bike, but it was enough to prompt a response from Reds General Manager Brad Meador.
FOX19 NOW Sports special contributor Charlie Goldsmith got a statement from Meador about the video.
Meador said he talked with Cruz, and the 24-year-old said he was not riding the dirt bike.
“I talked to Elly. He wasn’t riding it. It was just for the video,” Meador said, according to Goldsmith.
Cruz and the Reds play their first Spring Training game on Feb. 21.
