The Milwaukee Brewers signed outfielder Jacob Hurtubise to a minor-league contract earlier this week, as reflected on his MLB.com player profile, according to MLB Trade Rumors.
Hurtubise has been assigned to Triple-A Nashville, and the deal does not include an invitation to major-league spring training.

Hurtubise, 28, began his professional career as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Reds in 2020 and reached the majors with Cincinnati over the past two seasons.
He appeared in 41 big-league games, but his time with the organization ended in June when the Reds designated him for assignment.
That move triggered a series of transactions that saw Hurtubise claimed by the Seattle Mariners, later outrighted and released in July, and then signed by the Houston Astros on a minor-league deal before being released again in September.

Now with Milwaukee, Hurtubise will attempt to work his way back to the majors within the National League Central.
Even after dealing Isaac Collins to the Kansas City Royals earlier this offseason, the Brewers still possess considerable outfield depth behind their projected starters in Jackson Chourio, Garrett Mitchell, and Sal Frelick.
Hurtubise joins a group of depth options that includes Akil Baddoo, Brandon Lockridge, and Greg Jones, all competing for roles behind fourth outfielder Blake Perkins.

While Hurtubise retains a minor-league option, his lack of infield versatility could work against him in Milwaukee’s roster construction as the club often prioritizes multi-position players for its bench.
That said, Hurtubise brings value in other areas, particularly with his speed and baserunning instincts.
Across his minor-league career, Hurtubise has stolen 130 bases in 153 attempts, showcasing efficiency and aggressiveness on the basepaths. He has also demonstrated a strong ability to reach base, posting a .260/.411/.324 slash line in 576 Triple-A plate appearances.

That on-base skill has yet to translate consistently at the major league level, however, as Hurtubise owns a .167/.291/.212 line over 83 big-league plate appearances with Cincinnati.
Milwaukee will now evaluate whether Hurtubise’s speed and outfield coverage can carve out a role as depth or a situational option as the season approaches.
