The Chicago White Sox are going to be one of the more intriguing teams to keep an eye on heading into spring training. There are some roster spots that are going to be up for grabs to see which 26 players will be heading to Milwaukee to face the Brewers for Opening Day. Let’s take a look at one prospect who can make the leap and be on the roster immediately to help the White Sox to begin the 2026 season.

MLB’s Jonathan Mayo, Sam Dykstra, and Jim Callis co-wrote an article discussing one prospect from each MLB team who can make a run at joining the Opening Day roster. For the White Sox, the trio believe that outfielder Braden Montgomery could be the player to watch. Below is what they wrote regarding him:

“Part of the Garrett Crochet trade with the Red Sox at the 2024 Winter Meetings, Montgomery could shore up what might be MLB’s worst outfield contingent. A switch-hitting right-fielder with well-above-average raw power and arm strength, he slashed .270/.360/.444 with 12 homers and 14 steals in 121 games while advancing from Single-A to Double-A in his pro debut.”

Mongomery was selected with the 12th pick in the 2024 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. The 22-year-old outfielder had his first season in the minor leagues last season, splitting time between Single-A and Double-A. He finished the year with a .804 OPS with 12 home runs, 68 RBI, 64 runs scored, and 14 stolen bases. Montgomery also played the field well, committing only three errors while recording eight outfield assists while playing all three outfield positions, but primarily playing center and right fields.

Following the Luis Robert Jr trade, there is an opening for some young players to take a step to compete for a MLB roster spot out of spring training. It will be intriguing to see whether the 36th-ranked prospect in baseball will be able to do well enough to make a major step to the Chicago 26-man roster out of camp.
