The Philadelphia Phillies will likely need to rely on the development of some of their top prospects next season after losing multiple key players this offseason.
Philadelphia opted to avoid a massive overhaul of its roster this offseason, instead making minor upgrades to the outfield and bullpen and retaining key players like Kyle Schwarber and J.T. Realmuto. The Phillies’ offseason losses will open the way for some prospects to get an opportunity in the big leagues next season.
Andrew Painter and Justin Crawford are set to make an impact for Philadelphia, possibly ending up on the opening day roster, and former first-round pick Aidan Miller may crack the big-league roster at some point next season, according to MLB.com’s Theo DeRosa.

“In 2026, the Phillies would gladly welcome positive contributions from two of their top prospects — and perhaps a third as well,” DeRosa wrote Wednesday. “Right-handed pitcher Andrew Painter (MLB Pipeline’s No. 28 overall prospect) and outfielder Justin Crawford (No. 53) could both be on the Phils’ Opening Day roster, while shortstop Aidan Miller (No. 23) could reach the Major Leagues by the end of the season.
“Of the club’s top prospects, Crawford will likely be counted on the most this season: Center field appears to be his job to lose entering Spring Training. Painter, who was inconsistent in the Minors in 2025 — his first full year back from 2023 Tommy John surgery — might be needed to eat up innings in the rotation. If they can deliver (and if Miller can shine as a potential September callup), the Phillies’ ceiling is considerably higher.”
Philadelphia drafted Miller in the first round of the 2023 MLB Draft, and the 21-year-old has quickly risen through the minor leagues. Miller slashed .264/.392/.433 with 14 home runs and 42 RBIs across Double-A and Triple-A last season, displaying a mix of defense and power.
If Miller continues to develop at such a quick rate, he could provide Philadelphia with some valuable infield depth next season.
