The Philadelphia Phillies have been one of the more active teams in free agency this offseason, but they’re mainly targeting their own free agents. Players like Kyle Schwarber and JT Realmuto have been re-signed to new deals that will help them take the National League crown from the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With spring training quickly approaching, the Phillies don’t have too many moves left to make at this point.

Still, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported that the Phillies had agreed to a minor league contract with veteran reliever Lou Trivino on Saturday. Trivino ended the season with the Phillies, but spent time with the San Francisco Giants and Dodgers before that.

Philadelphia Phillies hat

Trivino began his big league career with the then-Oakland Athletics before ending up with the New York Yankees. After missing a few seasons with injuries, Trivino split last season with the three teams mentioned above (Giants, Dodgers, Phillies).

Now he’s earned himself another chance to land in the big leagues.

The veteran righty was impressive during his 10 games with the Phillies. Across nine innings, he allowed six hits and two earned runs. The Phillies didn’t use him as much as they could have, but he provided some valuable innings down the stretch.

He’s fighting a bit of an uphill battle to earn a spot on the big league roster, but it’s too early to count him out.
