After a long offseason of not being sure, Paul Goldschmidt got a new contract with the New York Yankees.
He came to the Bronx for the first time in 2025, and a solid season followed. Now, Goldschmidt is back to be the short-side platoon partner with Ben Rice.
The signing was reported earlier in the week, and on Saturday, the contract details were revealed.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported that the one-year deal will be worth $4 million for Goldschmidt.

A year ago, Goldschmidt had come to the Yankees on a one-year contract for $12.5 million.
This time, the Yanks pay him one-third of that amount.
Goldschmidt turned 38 years old in September.
The slugging first baseman is a seven-time All Star and a former MVP. In his career, he’s a .288 hitter with an .884 OPS and 372 home runs.

For the Yanks last season, Goldy batted .274 with a .731 OPS. Just against lefties, though, his OPS was .981.
Goldschmidt will provide a great veteran presence in addition to his ability to mash against lefties.
Rice certainly took the first base job for himself, so Goldschmidt won’t play a ton. But he’s also on a cheap contract that makes him more than worth bringing back to add a righty to a team with a lot of lefty hitters.
