Texas Rangers first baseman Jake Burger didn’t have a great 2025 season if Rangers fans take a look at his batting average. He’s going to have to bump it up this season so that Texas has a solid option at that position.
Let’s take a look at how Burger has hit average wise over the past few seasons. Last season for the Rangers, according to MLB.com, Burger had a slash line of .247/.297/.768 with 16 home runs and 51 RBIs.

Burger, though, has played for the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins before coming to Arlington, Texas, on a full-time basis. With the White Sox, Burger was just starting his MLB career. He played in 66 games in his first two MLB seasons, hitting .263 and .250 in limited action.
Then, in the 2023 MLB season, he appeared in 88 games for the White Sox before going to the Marlins. With the White Sox that season, Burger hit .214. But he really picked up his game once he arrived in South Florida. His average with the Marlins for the rest of the 2023 MLB season was .303.
Combining those 2023 numbers all together, Burger ended up with a composite .250 average.

In 2024, Burger appeared in 137 games for the National League East Division team in Miami and hit .250.
Last season, Burger only played in 103 games for the Rangers and just didn’t perform as well as he’d done before. Sure, his average was about on pace with his MLB career, yet Burger has had some pop in his bat throughout his playing time. Burger also spent time on the Injured List with a wrist injury, too.
Entering this season with Rangers manager Skip Schumaker at the helm, Burger hopes to have a rebound season in a big, big way. He knows that the organization wants to get back into the postseason picture.

But, that’s not going to be easy in the American League West Division with the Seattle Mariners and Houston Astros holding court. They’ve put a stranglehold on that division title, especially the Astros.
The past couple of seasons haven’t been good for the Rangers. Sure, they won the World Series in 2023 over the Arizona Diamondbacks. Since then, though, the franchise hasn’t been able to be in the big picture too much.
Schumaker and Rangers president of baseball operations Chris Young want that to change in a big way entering into the 2026 MLB season.

The Rangers get to work at Spring Training soon, and their goal is probably to have a winning season and potentially earn an American League Wild Card position.
Burger can have a big role in how that all pans out.
