This offseason has been an interesting one for the Chicago White Sox. They finally traded Luis Robert Jr. away in a deal with the New York Mets, and they’ve added a few nice free agent additions.
While Seranthony Dominguez and Austin Hays are interesting pickups, the signing of Munetaka Murakami is a very fun one for the White Sox. He’s a marquee free agent and signed a $34 million contract.
That $34 million deal and the signing of a star international player make their mistake on Murakami’s first day all the more embarrassing. Murkami shared on his Instagram story that the White Sox, somehow, managed to misspell his name on his locker.
White Sox embarrassingly misspell Munetaka Murakami’s name on locker
Murakami shared the locker, which, instead of spelling his name correctly, spelled his name “Munetaki Murakami.”
Brett Taylor of Bleacher Nation shared the screenshot of Murakami’s Instagram story. The comments under his post highlight just how embarrassing this situation is for the White Sox.

The $34 million White Sox free agent signing is getting an awkward introduction to the team with this embarrassing locker room misspelling. Munetaki is close to Munetaka, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is a rough look for the White Sox.
The season hasn’t even begun, and this might already be one of the most embarrassing things to happen to the White Sox this season.

Misspelling your star free agent signing’s name on his locker plaque is not just an embarrassing mistake, but it’s a whole lot worse that no one caught it before Murakami saw it and posted it on Instagram.
The 26-year-old signed with the White Sox in what was one of the best signings of the offseason by any team. Murakami has what it takes to be the White Sox’s best hitter for the 2026 season, and the $34 million contract is a steal.
But things are already in an awkward spot with their new star signing, as the misspelling of his name is a brutally embarrassing mistake to make right from the start of the 2026 season for the White Sox.
