QuickTake:

Oregon’s annual trip to Joe Etzel Field has gone from a hidden gem to a premium ticket.

For Oregon baseball fans, the annual midweek game against the University of Portland on The Bluff has long been a sneaky good experience.

Portland’s Joe Etzel Field is a renovated gem of the college baseball world, the concession lines move quickly and fans have been treated to a handful of wacky games over the years — including a 7-6 Portland win last season that ended on the ever-common walk-off hit-by-pitch.

Last year, the University of Portland Pilots knocked off the Ducks in extra innings.

But there’s nothing underrated about this game anymore — not with these ticket prices.

Portland, which charges $11 for tickets to every other game throughout the season, announced its pricing for home games against Oregon and Oregon State on Monday, Feb. 9.

Tickets for Oregon’s April 8 game against the Pilots begin at $35. Climbing even higher, the Pilots are charging $50-plus for their March 17 home game against Oregon State.

“The increased prices are based on the demand for tickets,” said Josh Craggs, Portland’s assistant athletic director for ticket sales.

And, well, Craggs has a point.

When Portland hosted University of Washington last year on a Tuesday night in March, 248 people attended. When the Pilots hosted Pepperdine for a Friday night conference game in April, 474 fans were in the seats. In total, the school averaged 331 fans per game throughout 2025 — a number that includes the 2,199 people who showed up, in the rain, to watch the Ducks fall to the Pilots in extras.

Tickets for that game began at $20.

Now, for those who don’t want to wait until April — or pay 75% more than last year — tickets for Oregon baseball’s opening day Friday against George Mason at PK Park in Eugene are still available for $7.
