EMORY, Va. — JD James (South Rowan) got the baseball season off to a good start over the weekend.

James, a 6-foot-1, lefty-hitting first baseman, is playing for South Atlantic Conference program Emory & Henry this season. He transferred from Caldwell Community College. He is a junior as far as baseball eligibility.

The Wasps went 1-2 at USC Aiken, but James hit a solo homer that helped win the final game of the series.

He was 3-for-8 officially, but the most impressive thing about his weekend was five walks. He went to the plate 14 times. One of his plate appearances was a sacrifice fly. He had three RBIs in the opening series.
