The New York Mets shared Tuesday that Francisco Lindor has an injury, and his chances of Opening Day availability are in question.
He’s a superstar shortstop, and missing him for any length of time wouldn’t be good news for the Mets.
His potential absence does raise a question, though: Could Bo Bichette slide over?
Bichette has been a shortstop his whole MLB career for the Toronto Blue Jays. When he signed with the Mets (three years, $126 million), he did so to slide over and play third base.

He’s never played third base at the professional level before, so it’s a major change.
Some teams considered sliding Bichette to second base, too. He’s not felt to be a good defensive shortstop.
Anyway, all that to say — the Mets have a choice to make.
According to Mets reporter Michael Baron, they aren’t considering Bichette as a shortstop.
Their four choices, according to Baron:

Mauricio is certainly the strongest bat of that bunch, although a couple of the others might be better defenders.
The Mets will mostly cross their fingers that Lindor is just fine.
In the meantime, they’ll keep trying to get Bichette up to speed at third base, not shortstop.
