College baseball: Catawba belts 3 homers at Barton

WILSON — The Catawba Indians finally got to play their first baseball game in North Carolina on Tuesday, and it went well.
The Indians crushed Barton 15-2 in front of 100 fans at Nixon Field in Wilson.
Three local high school products had humongous games. Ty Hubbard (South Rowan), Nathan Chrismon (South Rowan) and Matthew Connolly (West Rowan) powered home runs. Hubbard launched a grand slam in the eighth.
Hubbard had three hits and five RBIs. Connolly had three hits and four RBIs. Chrismon had two hits and two RBIs.
Hunter Atkins scored three runs. Malachi Cloud drove in two.
Parker Lakey pitched into the sixth inning and picked up the easy win.
Catawba (4-1) hosts Tusculum in the first South Atlantic Conference series this weekend. A single game is set for Friday night, with two games scheduled for Saturday.
