Phillippe Aumont’s last pitch in Major League Baseball was 11 years ago, when he left four innings into the wrong end of a 12-4 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.

In 2018, Aumont made 29 appearances for the Detroit Tigers’ Triple-A affiliate. The Quebec native missed the 2019 season with an injury, made two appearances for the Toronto Blue Jays in spring training the next year, then quietly retired after the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
Now, six years later, Aumont is back. The 37-year-old right-hander signed a minor league contract with the Blue Jays, who invited him to their major league spring training camp.
Pretty cool news. Former Phillies prospect Phillippe Aumont is coming out of retirement and has signed with the Toronto Blue Jays.Aumont retired in June 2020 and has been working on a farm in Quebec. He pitched in the 2023 WBC for Canada and is on their 2026 WBC roster.

Already slated to compete for Team Canada in the World Baseball Classic, Aumont will now try to make Canada’s only MLB team over the next six weeks.
Aumont is 1-6 with a 6.80 ERA in 46 games for the Phillies from 2012-15. Before retiring, he enjoyed a journeyman’s career. Drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the Seattle Mariners in 2007, Aumont was traded to the Phillies in 2009 as part of the deal that sent All-Star Cliff Lee to Seattle.
After being released by the Phillies in June 2015, he finished out the season with the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate. He briefly retired in 2016 after an injury ended his season with the White Sox’s Triple-A affiliate, then resurfaced with Ottawa of the independent Canadian-American Association in 2017.
Aumont spent in 2018 in the Detroit Tigers’ system, his last full season in affiliated baseball.
