STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) – Georgia Southern Baseball will open up their 2026 season on Friday (2/13) with a home series against West Virginia.
The Eagles bring in a ton of young talent to their roster this season and only have 6 seniors after graduating 20 last year. “Definitely different from past years but at this level, age doesn’t matter, anyone can compete,” said Senior RHP Brady Pendley.
A start against West Virginia, a team who made it to the NCAA Super Regionals in 2025 before falling to eventual National Champion LSU, will be a tough task. “I think you found out more about your team by playing quality opponents,” said Eagles Skipper Rodney Hennon. GSU will also host #5 Georgia Tech on Tuesday before going to Georgia Tech on April 14th.
The Sun Belt is definitely on the map after Coastal Carolina’s National Runner-Up season in 2025. The Eagles believe they have what it takes to get to Omaha but perhaps seeing the Chanticleers make it, fuels those hopes and desires in 2026. Senior Jonathan Jaime said “it entices us to be just as good as they are. It’s motivating for sure and great for our conference and I hope that we can do it as well.”
First pitch of the Eagles season is set for Friday at 6:30pm from J.I Clements Stadium in Statesboro.
