The Los Angeles Dodgers start reporting for Spring Training on Friday, February 13th, when the pitchers and catchers officially get ready for the upcoming season.

The Dodgers are eyeing a three-peat this season, a feat that will require a roster — which the team has — that comes together and plays as a unit.

Spring ball is the start of this melding, the first time the whole team, including players on the outskirts of the 40-man roster, comes together.

This year, however, the World Baseball Classic will also be held in the spring, creating a tricky situation for manager Dave Roberts.

The Dodgers have multiple players taking part in the tournament, meaning they will miss spring training and leave early before returning for the start of the season.

The WBC pool play featuring Dodgers players stars on March 5th, and the action can extend until March 17 for some players who make it to the final.

Dodgers Nation’s very own Doug McKain outlined the Spring Training timeline and how little time the WBC stars will have in Arizona before leaving.

“The first workout for pitchers and catchers. Then Tuesday, February 17th, that’s the first full squad workout,” he said.

“Saturday, February 21st is the Dodgers first Cactus League game against the angels will be on the road in Tempe. Then Monday, February 23rd, the Dodgers first spring training game at Camelback Ranch.

“It’s going to be against the Mariners. Then, on Friday, February 27th, the first workouts for Team Japan.

“And that would mean that Shohei Otani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto will be in Tokyo for the WBC.

“So if you want to go out and see those guys, you’re gonna have to go to spring training early in the game.”

Which Dodgers players are playing in the WBC?

Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto, as outlined by Doug, will be on Team Japan, though Ohtani will not be pitching, only serving as a designated hitter.

Additionally, former Dodger and recent retiree Clayton Kershaw will be on Team USA, along with catcher Will Smith.

Edwin Diaz will be the closer for Puerto Rico in the tournament, hoping to make it out healthy after suffering a torn patellar tendon.

Hyeseong Kim is playing for Team Korea, where he hopes to gain valuable experience behind the plate in preparation.

Notably, Miguel Rojas was denied permission to play for Venezuela due to an insurance issue, while Freddie Freeman will miss the action for a personal reason that has not been revealed.

If Dodgers fans want to see any of the stars in the WBC, they will need to go early, before the players leave for their teams’ respective training camps.
