Jameson Taillon had one of his best starts of the year last time out, last Tuesday against the Marlins: Seven innings, four hits, one run.
His last start against the Rockies was Sept. 14, 2024 at Coors Field, where he held the Rox to two runs in six innings, with six strikeouts. I think we’d take another one like that this afternoon.
Carson Palmquist was the Rockies’ third-round pick in 2022 out of the University of Miami. He threw reasonably well in seven starts for Triple-A Albuquerque so the Rockies called him up and… yikes, the results have been bad. In two starts he’s allowed 16 hits, five walks and 11 earned runs in just 8⅓ total innings.
He’s obviously never faced the Cubs or anyone on their active roster, so let’s hope they have a good scouting report, because this looks like a guy they could hit. He had good strikeout rates in the minor leagues, but has struck out only two of 45 batters faced since he came to MLB.
