Mitch Keller

The Pittsburgh Pirates have had an interesting MLB offseason so far. By adding key player like Brandon Lowe, Ryan O’Hearn, and Marcell Ozuna, the Pirates have been more aggressive with their roster approach than they have been in previous seasons.

*Prediction*

For as aggressive as they have been to make an instant turnaround this season, the Pirates also need to be looking to build their team for the future as well. One way in which they can do so is by looking to trade Mitch Keller.

Keller has been in numerous trade discussions this offseason, but they have yet to trade him. With them having Paul Skenes as their top pitcher, they need to be making sure they have the financial room to re-sign him in the near future.

Trading Keller can lead to them being able to create that financial space. If the Pirates do trade Keller, the New York Mets make sense.

Pittsburgh Pirates Trade Mitch Keller to the New York Mets

The New York Mets have made strides with starting to advance their pitching with trading for Freddy Peralta to go along with the rest of their rotation. Peralta is a standout talent, but behind him the rest of the depth of Nolan McLean, Sean Manaea, Clay Holmes, and Kodai Senga leave question marks.

If the Mets are going to make a deep playoff run once again, they need to strengthen their pitching staff more ahead of the season starting. At this point in the offseason, the Mets best solution would be to go the trade route, and Mitch Keller needs to be their primary target.

Mitch Keller is coming off a strong 2025 season. Keller ended up with a 4.19 ERA, 1.259 WHIP, and 150 strikeouts. Over his career he has shown his reliability with a 4.51 ERA and 837 strikeouts.

The seven years of experience Mitch Keller has, along with his increase in production each season, makes him the ideal pitcher trade target for the Mets. Keller has the production and is still young to fit the timeline for New York to be the addition they look to secure.
