Could there be a mega-trade between the Los Angeles Angels and the New York Mets for Mike Trout?
*PREDICTION*
In a video by SNY Media at the start of 2026, they discussed a potential trade of Mike Trout to the New York Mets, which caused a ton of uproar within the Mets community. There are people on both sides of the fence screaming why they both love and hate the potential move.
Let’s break down whether this trade has a possibility of happening, and if not, why?Â

Why the New York Mets Would Make This Trade
Steve Cohen is the richest owner in baseball, and because of that, the Mets are almost always in the biggest trade conversations. They are poised to enter the 2026 season with the second-highest payroll in MLB.
Despite losing Pete Alonso in free agency, New York added Bo Bichette to the mix to help bolster the offense and infield production.
On paper, Trout would seem like a nice fit for the Mets. He could step in as the designated hitter while also giving the club added outfield depth, and his bat would help protect Juan Soto in the middle of the lineup.Â
One of the biggest changes for the Mets is that Juan Soto is moving to left field this season. Soto has plenty of experience in left and will be the regular left fielder, opening up right field for others while the club tries to maximize his value on both sides of the ball.Â
At the same time, Trout is 34 with an injury history and a large contract that would be tough for any team to absorb. The Mets would essentially need to bet on either Soto improving substantially in the field or Trout staying healthy, neither of which is guaranteed, in order to make this splash.
Would the Angels Trade Mike Trout?
Trout is still with the Angels, but their owner, Arte Moreno, would have to be willing to take back a significant portion of his contract. At the same time, he would likely want a major return immediately, which creates a serious problem.
Trout is going to be 34 years old, has clearly declined in recent years, has an extensive injury history, and is owed about $177 million over the next five years.Â
The problem immediately is if, let’s say, the Angels wanted to trade Trout, would another team genuinely be interested in giving a massive haul, given the caveats with him?
