The Dumas Demonette varsity softball team started their season with a dominating 13-1 win over the Tascosa Lady Rebels. Madi Zubia. Mia Fry and Vida Fierro all recorded two RBIs in the contest.
The Demonette defense shut down the Tascosa offense in the top of the first inning holding them scoreless. The Duma offense picked up where they left off last May. Yaritza Vargas crossed the plate on an error by the second baseman. Madi Zubia followed with a single driving home Natalee Keenan as she came in for Aaliyah Chairez as a relief runner. Later in the inning Vida Fierro scored on a wild pitch, followed by a single from Fry to drive in Lisbeth Quiroz to give Dumas a 4-0 lead at the end of the first inning.
After the Demonette defense held Tascosa off the board once again in the top of the second inning, Quiroz doubled driving in Vargas, followed by another runs scored by Keenan on an error for a 6-0 lead after two inning. The Lady rebels scored their only run of the game in the top of the third.
Dumas pulled away in the bottom of the third scoring runs on four errors, followed by a walk-in run and a scored run on a pop out out for the 13-1 victory,
Vargas went 2-of-2 from the plate recording a single and a double. Chairez was also perfect going 3-of-3 with two singles, a double and two RBIs. Zubia went 2-of-3 with two singles and two RBIs. Star Cortes pitched three innings with five strikeouts
The Demonettes will be back in action this weekend when they play in the Lubbock Tournament.Â
