SIOUX CITY, IA – The Wildcat softball squad went 1-1 this evening on the road over in Sioux Center, Iowa, as they took on the Defenders of Dordt University.

DU won game one 4-2 and WSC responded with a 7-2 win in the second game. WSC moves to 5-1 on the season and Dordt is now 6-1.

Taylor Coleman started in the circle for the ‘Cats in game one and after walking the first batter, she struck out the next three batters to start the game.

WSC scored their first run on a bases loaded walk, giving Jordyn Klein an RBI in the top of the second inning. Dordt would get out of the inning after a fly out and leave three Wildcats stranded.

Coleman would get two more out in the bottom of the second only walking one batter.

The Defenders would get on the board in the third inning after runners advanced to second and third. A double would send the two runners home making it 2-1.

WSC tied up the score 2-2 after Emilee Marth singled and earned her first RBI.

Dordt would tack on two more runs in the fifth inning off another double. WSC would have the tying and go-ahead runners on in the seventh inning but were unable to get any runners home, losing game one 4-2.

Both squads were scoreless through the first two innings to begin Game Two before the Wildcats put three runs on the board with three hits in the top of the third inning to take command of the game and they never looked back.

Maddie Scobee doubled to the left center and scored Leah Chance, Klein, and Marth. Dordt answered with one run.

Marth scored another run later in the sixth inning, drove in by Kennadi Borngrebe who was the starting pitcher for game two.

The ‘Cats added three more runs on in the seventh off a three-run homer from Marth. Dordt would only score one more run and the ‘Cats would take game two 7-2.

 

Wayne State heads to the Washburn Tournament in Topeka, Kansas February 20th and 21st taking on four MIAA opponents. Newman and Washburn will be on Friday and Central Oklahoma and Emporia State will be Saturday.
