The Chicago White Sox signed right-hander Erick Fedde to a one-year, $1.5 million contract, bringing back the 2024 standout for a rotation spot ahead of 2026 spring training. Details on his return, stats and implications.

The Chicago White Sox have brought back a familiar arm to bolster their pitching staff, agreeing to terms with right-hander Erick Fedde on a one-year, $1.5 million contract. The deal, announced February 10, 2026, and finalized after a physical, reunites Fedde with the organization where he enjoyed one of the best stretches of his career in 2024.

Fedde, 33, originally signed with the White Sox prior to the 2024 season following a standout year in the KBO with the NC Dinos. In 21 starts for Chicago that season, he posted a 7-4 record, 3.11 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 4.6 bWAR, leading the club in WAR despite the team’s historic 41-121 finish. He held opponents to a low batting average and thrived under the guidance of director of pitching Brian Bannister, who helped refine his arsenal, including the addition of an effective cutter.

Fedde was traded at the 2024 deadline in a three-team deal that sent him to the St. Louis Cardinals and brought infielder Miguel Vargas to the White Sox, along with prospects Jeral Perez and Alexander Albertus. In 2025, Fedde struggled across multiple organizations, the Cardinals, Atlanta Braves, and Milwaukee Brewers, combining for a 4-13 record and 5.49 ERA in 32 appearances. He spent time as both a starter and a reliever, with his cutter reportedly losing effectiveness compared to his 2024 form.

The return to Chicago gives Fedde a chance to reset with Bannister, whose influence was a key factor in his initial decision to join the White Sox after his KBO success. Fedde expressed enthusiasm about the reunion, noting Bannister’s immediate feedback during his first bullpen session at Camelback Ranch following the signing.

The White Sox placed left-hander Ky Bush on the 60-day injured list (recovering from Tommy John surgery) to create roster space for Fedde. The right-hander will wear No. 47 in his second stint with the club.

Rotation Implications for 2026

Fedde is expected to compete for a spot in the starting rotation in Spring Training. The low-risk, one-year agreement provides the rebuilding White Sox with veteran depth at a modest cost while allowing Fedde to prove he can recapture his 2024 success. If he performs well, Chicago could position him as a trade candidate later in the season.
