The Los Angeles Dodgers and infielder Max Muncy agreed to a one year contract extension with a $7 million salary in 2027 and a club option worth $10 million in 2028 with a $3 million buyout

The Los Angeles Dodgers and infielder Max Muncy agreed to a one-year contract extension with $10 million guaranteed. The contract — which begins after the 2026 season — includes a $7 million dollar salary for the 2027 season and a $10 million club option for 2028 with a $3 million buyout.

Muncy has been with the Dodgers since he signed with them as a minor league free agent in April 2017, and made his debut with the big league club one year later. In 924 games across eight seasons in LA, Muncy has slashed .232/.358/.485 with an .843 OPS, 128 OPS+, 209 home runs, 587 RBIs and 23.3 fWAR. Muncy has still been productive at the plate despite being in his mid-thirties now, as in 2025 he slashed .243/.376/.470 with an .846 OPS, 136 OPS+, 19 home runs and 67 RBIs.

Max Muncy’s home run in the 8th inning of Game 7 of the World Series gave the Dodgers life that fueled their comeback.

He’ll now play at least 2 more seasons with the Dodgers after his extension.

Muncy originally made his debut with the Oakland Athletics, he never panned out for them, as in 96 games across the 2015 and 2016 seasons, Muncy had just a .611 OPS. The Athletics designated Muncy for assignment on Jan. 3, 2017, before they released him on April 3, 2017.

Since then, though, Muncy has been a key part of the Dodgers’ success in the regular season and in the postseason, as his 16 home runs and 46 RBIs in the playoffs are a Dodgers franchise record.

One of Muncy’s most memorable moments with the Dodgers came in Game 3 of the 2018 World Series against the Boston Red Sox. After seven hours and 20 minutes had passed since the start of the game, making it the longest postseason game in MLB history, Muncy hit a walk-off home run in the 18th inning off of Red Sox pitcher Nathan Eovaldi to give the Dodgers their only win of that series.
