The Chicago White Sox have a brand new power hitter in Munetaka Murakami. The club shocked plenty when the two sides agreed on a two-year, $34 million contract.Â
For those unfamiliar, he had quite a career in Japan. Throughout his time in Japan, he had become a two-time Central League MVP, Triple Crown winner, four-time NPB All-Star, two-time Central League home run leader, and a three-time Best Nine Award winner.Â
That is a ton of accomplishments to bring to a team that has not had a lot to cheer about lately. Things are starting to change for the South Siders.Â

Anthony Kay warns the rest of MLB that Munetaka Murakami is the real deal
There have not been a ton of MLB arms that have faced Murakami, but luckily for the White Sox, they have one on the roster. Anthony Kay spent the last two seasons in the NPB, and he knows just how elite Munetaka is at the plate.Â
He sat with Chuck Garfien, warning the rest of the league that Munetaka is someone to watch out for.Â
“He’s got probably the most power I’ve ever seen. I mean, it’s ridiculous. We were in a deadball era over there, not a lot of home runs, but he’s still putting balls 10 or 20 rows deep. It was impressive.”
Kay explains that when he was playing in the NPB, they had a more deadened baseball. However, that was no match for Munetaka’s strength, as he could put the ball well over the fence.Â
Munetaka has a good chance to put up even bigger numbers than he did in Japan. The ball will be more responsive off his bat, and Guaranteed Rate Field can be known for being a home run haven, especially in June and July.Â
Don’t be surprised if the hard-hitting Japanese slugger has no problem making the switch to MLB.
