The offseason is coming to a close for the Los Angeles Dodgers, as pitchers and catchers are holding their first official workout of 2026 Spring Training on Friday. They’ll be joined by position players for a full-squad workout at Camelback Ranch on Tuesday.
The Dodgers are heading into a new season with much of their core still intact, highlighted by team leaders Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman, Max Muncy and Shohei Ohtani. In Muncy’s case, he just signed a contract extension and is now the longest-tenured player in the Dodgers organization.
Meanwhile, Betts is entering his seventh season with the Dodgers. That’s going to break a tie with the Boston Red Sox for Betts’ longest time spent with one team. Of course, he remains under contract with the Dodgers through 2032.
Ahead of embarking on his 13th MLB season, Betts shared a video on Instagram of completing a workout inside his home gym area.
Although the 33-year-old played a part in the Dodgers winning a second consecutive World Series, Betts is coming off an underwhelming season on a personal level. He battled a mysterious virus at the end of Spring Training last year that caused significant weight loss.
It significantly set Betts back and had him trying to play catch-up throughout the year. He made a concerted effort midway through last season to no longer worry about individual statistics and has a refreshed mindset for 2026.
“I just got to get back to re-wiring and trusting myself. Not worrying about having a bad year last year, just kind of putting that out of my mind,” he said at DodgerFest. “Not even trying to have a good year this year. Just play, have fun, and we’ll get there whenever we get there.
“More just re-wiring the mechanics of my brain, the motor pattern. It kind of got out of whack early on, and once it got out of whack early, it was kind of a snowball effect. Now I’ve gotten to put the training wheels on, take my time, and really stack positive days over and over. Now we’re in a really good spot.”
Mookie Betts coaching in NBA All-Star Celebrity Game
Betts is not yet with several of his Dodgers teammates in Arizona due to needing to coach in the 2026 NBA All-Star Celebrity Game at the Kia Forum on Friday night. Coaching alongside Betts are Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, and his brothers Thanasis and Alex.
Their roster consists of social media creator and basketball personality Jenna Bandy, NBA insider Shams Charania, former player Tacko Fall, reigning NBA All-Star Celebrity Game MVP Rome Flynn, actor and producer Keegan-Michael Kay, former Lakers guard Jeremy Lin, Charlotte Horners governor Rick Schnall, acot and signer Dylan Wang, Detroit Lions wide reciver Amon-Ra St. Brown, two-time FIFA Wold Cup champion Cafu and multi-platinum rapper GloRilla.
