MONTPELIER–If you have been following the Lake Region baseball team this season, you know the Rangers having been fighting an uphill battle all year long.
The boys have suffered some very tough losses this season, and against Harwood on Friday, they got stung again, as Harwood no-hit the boys in blue in a tough 11-0 loss.
“Been a tough season on both sides of the ball,” said LR coach Dana Stevens after the Harwood game. “We are a good team that just can’t find our wings to fly. When we do, it is going to be good. Until then, we have to play cleaner baseball and have fun.”
On Saturday they traveled to take on Montpelier, and while the final result wasn’t what they wanted, they had a better showing against the Solons in a 10-3 loss.
“Another tough one,” said Stevens on Saturday. “We had a bad inning but played better baseball today than we have been. Hopefully it will continue in the right time of year to play better baseball.”
Lake Region’s first run came in the second, and it started with Max Demaine reaching on an error.
Nick Robillard was hit by a pitch, then Jayden Choquette brought in Demaine with a single.
The Rangers’ final two runs came in the top of the 7th.
Robillard singled, then Cam Griffin followed suit.
With two on, Cotter Stevens ripped a double to plate both runs.
Sophomore Ryan Pepin got the start and would go three innings and take a no decision.
Jacob Poginy threw an inning, taking the loss, and then Nate Baderstcher finished out the game.
The loss drops the Rangers to 0-13 on the year, and they will look to get that elusive first win on Tuesday against Oxbow.
Tuesday’s game is also LR’s Senior Game, so the pregame festivities will get going around 4:15 with the game slated to start at 4:30.
