Royals acquire right-hander Mitch Spence from Athletics

  • February 13, 2026

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) – The Kansas City Royals have acquired right-handed pitcher Mitch Spence from the Athletics in exchange for right-hander A.J. Causey. Spence was designated for assignment earlier this week.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Royals placed right-hander Alec Marsh on the 60-day Injured List.

Spence, 27, has spent the past two seasons with the Athletics after being selected in the 2024 Rule 5 Draft from the Yankees. He has made 67 appearances (32 starts) over two big league seasons, logging 236.0 innings with a 2.7 walks-per-nine rate.

Causey, 23, went 11-5 with nine saves and a 1.72 ERA across two minor league levels last season. He was Kansas City’s fifth-round pick in 2024.
