CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Major League Baseball’s owners have approved the transfer of control of the Reds from Bob Castellini to his son, Phil Castellini.

“This was the conclusion of the process that was started when the Reds announced organizational changes in July of 2024, naming Phil president and CEO, and Doug Healy as COO and CFO,” the Reds said in a statement.

Bob Castellini became became principal owner and chief executive officer of the team in January 2006.

He promised to, “bring championship baseball back to Cincinnati,” but in his time as principal owner the Reds failed to win a single playoff series and only made the playoffs five times, including in 2020 when the playoffs were expanded due to a shortened season during the COVID-19 pandemic.
