New York Yankees‘ Jasson Dominguez looks to have an uncertain future in the Bronx. Dominguez was on the major league roster for the entire 2025 MLB season. However, the team had trouble giving him consistent at-bats for much of the second half.

The 23-year-old posted a batting average of .257 with 98 hits, 10 home runs, 47 RBIs, and 58 runs scored in 123 games last season, per StatMuse.

With Dominguez being young and not having guaranteed playing time with New York, FOX Sports’ Deesha Thosar issued a bold prediction that the Yankees will trade the outfielder before Opening Day.

“I’m going super bold here, and I’m going to say the Yankees will trade Jasson Dominguez before Opening Day,” Thosar said during a Feb. 13 appearance on MLB Network. “Why? Because the second that Cody Bellinger was re‑signed to that five‑year deal, there was no room for Dominguez on this team.

“Even looking ahead, they have Spencer Jones coming up, so he’s getting pushed out of this outfield alignment. And even beyond that, the Yankees clearly do not believe that he belongs in center field. They do not think he’s ready for that. He was not super great in left field last year. He still isn’t in center.”

Jasson Dominguez Still Has Trade Value for Yankees

Moreover, while Dominguez might be the odd man out in the outfield, Thosar believes he still has trade value and could be a chip for New York to bolster another part of the team heading into the 2026 MLB season.

“I mean, there’s value in him hitting left-handed versus right-handed pitching,” Thosar added. “He can be valuable off the bench this season. But if the Yankees wanted to upgrade another part of their roster, this is a super valuable piece that another team could want to improve their outfield or their lineup.

“So if the Yankees run into more problems here in spring training, like we already saw with the Cam Schlitter injury come up, they could use Jasson Dominguez as a trade chip here.”

What’s the Plan for Jasson Dominguez?

On Feb. 13, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman shared what’s the plan for Dominguez with relegated to a bench role should everyone be healthy on Opening Day.

“Stay tuned,” Cashman said (h/t SNY). “[Trent Grisham] came out nowhere last year and really had an All-Star season and took control of one of those everyday spots with [Aaron] Judge and [Cody Bellinger], which reduced Jasson to a role player. There were still lanes for him to contribute with us coming off the bench, pinch-run, etc. when we were in the midst of a pennant race to try to determine the AL East title or Wild Card situation.

“So there are still ways. Dominguez is an extremely talented player — both offensively, defensively — and he’s one of our best runners. Having him as a choice for a manager to use, coming off the bench at times definitely improves our chances of success because of his pure athleticism. So if everything stays the same, we’ll be forced to choose our best course of action to help this team.”

Furthermore, Cashman hinted that the outfielder could be heading to the minors, as they would prefer he get everyday reps rather than sit on the bench for the major league team.

“I would conceive that it’s in our best interest to get him everyday reps,” Cashman added. “We’ll be able to do that with all of these guys down here as they go through their ramp-ups, then we’ll see have to wait and see how the spring shakes out and who’s standing when we have our meetings closer to the end of camp. So we’ll see where it takes us.”
