LAKELAND, Fla. — Former Detroit Tigers first baseman Keston Hiura has signed a minor-league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers and received an invitation to spring training.
Hiura, 29, has played in parts of six seasons for three MLB teams, including a brief stint with the Colorado Rockies last summer.
Hiura signed with the Tigers at the start of spring training in 2024 after having spent his entire career to that point in the Milwaukee Brewers organization.
He spent the first two months of that season as the everyday first baseman at Triple-A Toledo, but lost his job and was released after Spencer Torkelson was demoted in June.
Hiura signed a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels a few days later, on June 12, and was promoted to the big leagues on July 5, 2024.
His first stint in the big leagues since 2022 didn’t go well. Hiura was 4-for-27 with no extra-base hits and 10 strikeouts in 10 games with the Angels before being DFA’d.
Hiura signed a minor-league deal with the Rockies before the 2025 season and had nine home runs in 200 plate appearances for Triple-A Albuquerque before a late May call-up.
Hiura was drafted in the first round (9th overall) out of UC-Irvine in 2017 and was a consensus top-20 prospect going into the 2019 season. He had an impressive rookie campaign with the Brewers, hitting 19 home runs in 348 plate appearances, but struggled to reach the same heights in subsequent seasons.
