WVU Baseball made its 2026 debut inside D1Baseball’s Top 25 Rankings at No. 25, per a release Monday. This follows a three-game series sweep of Georgia Southern University at J.I. Clements Stadium in Statesboro, Georgia, during the weekend.

D1Baseball’s rankings are the rankings officially recognized by the NCAA.

West Virginia is one of two Big 12 teams ranked in the top 25, alongside Texas Christian University, checking in at No. 7. The University of Arizona dropped out of the rankings after a three-game losing skid to start the season.

WVU joins the No. 21-ranked University of Oklahoma as the only two new faces in the rankings after the opening weekend.

Starting the season ranked in Baseball America’s top 25, WVU was the only ranked team to begin its season with an away series sweep.

Sophomore shortstop Matt Ineich led the way for the Mountaineers in their series win over the Eagles, tallying six hits on nine at-bats, five runs, five runs batted in and an on-base plus slugging of 1.813. Junior right-handed pitcher Dawson Montesa tossed six innings of two-run baseball with seven strikeouts in the final game of the series to clinch the series sweep.

WVU continues its campaign with another three-game away series at Liberty University, Friday, Feb 20, to Sunday, Feb. 22, at Liberty Baseball Stadium in Lynchburg, Virginia. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
